Elliott Aviation Through the Years

Elliott Aviation is one of the oldest aviation companies in the industry. Since 1936, it has grown and evolved, adapted, and innovated to meet the ever-changing needs of its customers.

1936

Founding

Herb Elliott starts Elliott Flying Service in DeWitt, Iowa, trading flying lessons for resources to launch his aviation business.

1937–1939

Early Success & Partnership

The company sells 13 aircraft in its first year. Herb marries Arlene Stoltenberg, his bookkeeper and partner.

1937–1939

1940s

World War II Service & Post-War Expansion

Herb serves as a civilian flight instructor and ferry pilot, temporarily relocating operations to Bonham, Texas.

Operations resume in Davenport, Iowa, adding maintenance services and exclusive Beechcraft dealership by 1947.

1958–1976

Midwest Growth

Des Moines branch opens in 1958, Minneapolis in 1972, expanding Elliott’s regional presence.

In 1976, Herb and Arlene receive Beechcraft’s inaugural “Team of the Year” award and later enter the Beechcraft Hall of Fame.

1982-1995

New Facilities & Branding

Omaha branch opens; current Moline headquarters completed. Wynn Elliott takes over leadership; company renamed Elliott Aviation to reflect full service offerings.

2003–2007

Completions & Paint Centers

Launch of Moline Completions Center for interiors, avionics, and paint; new Paint & Interior Design Center opens.

2008–2012

Technology & Expansion

Des Moines facility expands; King Air Garmin G1000 retrofit program begins and reaches 50th installation; accessory shop opens; Phenom 100/300 authorized service center.
